CAD and drawings
A category of file formats covered by Format Atlas.
About this category
DWGDWG stores drawings with layers and annotations for AutoCAD-related workflows. File versions differ, so an older CAD application may not open a newer DWG.DXFDXF represents AutoCAD drawing data as group codes and values. It can exchange entities, layers, and text, but a recipient's tool and format version may interpret features differently.IGESIGES exchanges geometry and product-definition data between CAD/CAM systems. It remains common in established workflows, but converted surfaces and solids need checking.STEPSTEP is based on ISO 10303 and is used to exchange 3D geometry and product data between CAD/CAM systems. STEP and STP are common extensions for the same family; native modeling history usually does not transfer.
